Soundnet: Game changing Playdium is the industry’s smartest box

TouchTunes is celebrating ‘an enthusiastic and highly positive response’ to the launch of its Playdium jukebox, which was unveiled to leading operators by TouchTunes CEO Charles Goldstuck, European managing director, Alan Newham, Simon Davis of Soundnet and Sound Leisure’s Chris Black, at October’s ACOS exhibition held at Stamford Bridge.

Just two months after the official UK launch, operators have been quick to focus on the smart and intelligent credentials of what Leisureplay’s Marc Bird described as a ‘game changing’ jukebox. The ease with which consumers can navigate the jukebox and find the music they want, the two piece modular design, which enables installations to be completed simply and swiftly by a single member of staff and the unparalleled music choice it offers users, comprising some one million tracks, including entire albums.

Created by TouchTunes to be an invenue centrepiece, Playdium has gained a reputation amongst US operators as representing the next generation entertainment platform, and one which allows venues to select from a variety of music profiles to tailor the artists and songs most prominently featured to suit their location and customer base. The smart jukebox learns from the music selected and adapts over time to highlight the choices that are most relevant.

Alan Newham, TouchTunes European managing director, believes the combination of TouchTunes, Soundnet and Sound Leisure, will help to change the dynamics of the jukebox market here. He said:

“Sound Leisure has a fantastic history and I am delighted to be working alongside Chris and the Sound Leisure team to write the next chapter in that story. Combining TouchTunes commitment to product innovation with Sound Leisure’s knowledge of the local market, creates the ideal combination to achieve our ultimate goal, which is to rejuvenate the UK jukebox market.”

Toby Hoyte, marketing manager at Soundnet, believes this is a ‘win/win’ opportunity for all parties. He explained:

“In practical terms, the 15 percent business model enables operators to place their Playdium jukeboxes in any site at any time of the year, making the Playdium the box for every venue.” He continued: “Innovation and ongoing enhancements are key to keeping consumers engaged with the jukebox given other online music services continue to develop and change expectations. This has been missing from the UK market and the TouchTunes model creates the incentive to keep the jukebox experience up to date.”
